We’re glad to announce the winners the FreedomFilmFest’s film proposal competition!

The THREE winners which have been selected from the numerous proposals we have received from budding filmmakers and activists are:

Khaizan

FFF2009 Winners the ‘S-ploited’ consisting of Khaizan and her co-director Seira.

Lawyer, KHAIZAN SHARIZAD binti. ABD RAZAK for her proposal on ”the IDIOTS guide to the political crisis in Perak”;

Rahmat
FFF2009 winner Rahmat Haron.

RAHMAT HARON, who is a poet and artist, for his proposal to revisit the Kg. Memali incident (which happened in 1985 in Kedah) from a human rights perspective and

Sook Hwa
FFF2009 Winner Sook Hwa.

SOH SOOK HWA, an organic farmer and member of the Tanjung Worker’s Service Center for her proposal to document the experiences of some of the participants of the ‘Ride For Change’ campaign organised by JERIT(Jaringan Rakyat Tertindas) earlier this year.

The three winners will receive a grant amounting to RM5,000 each to create their films based on their proposals. In addition to that, KOMAS will also be providing them assistance in producing their film.

The panel judges for this year includes Dato’ Ambiga Sreenevasan, former president of BAR Council; Haris Ibrahim, practicing lawyer and blogger; Fiona Lawson-Baker, producer of Al-Jazeera English; and Anna Har, creative director of Big Pictures Production and board member of one of the board of KOMAS
FreedomFilmFest2009 is still accepting submission of completed films or videos for their Category B of the competition. All three completed winning films will premiere at the FFF screenings in October 2009 in Kuala Lumpur, Kuching, Penang and Johor Bahru along side other locals and international documentaries.
