FILM PROPOSAL COMPETITION

An annual film proposal competition is an essential part of the annual FreedomFilmFest human rights festival. This competition which carries the theme DARE TO DOCUMENT requires the participant to submit a film proposal for any social film or human rights documentary. The three best proposals selected by a panel of judges will be awarded a grant of RM6,000 and production assistance by KOMAS to make their films a reality.

These three winners will be awarded the Justin Louis Award, and the best completed film of the three winners will be awarded the Best Human Rights Film Award.

WORKSHOPS

A series of workshops on video production and community video is also organised by FreedomFilmFest from time to time. These workshops are usually targeted to students as well as grassroots communities to equipped them with knowledge and understanding of using films as an advocacy tool.

COMMUNITY SCREENINGS

Throughout the year, the FreedomFilmFest will have community screenings at local colleges, universities, and various communities throughout Malaysia. This screenings aims to bring our films to those who would otherwise not be able to attend our festival. By using our films as an advocacy tool in targeted groups, we are able to increase awareness about human rights in Malaysia as well as to empower the people to share their own stories and let their voices be heard.

FESTIVAL PREMIER SCREENINGS

Upon the completion of the films, a series of premier screenings are held throughout Malaysia’s FFF venues, in the Klang Valley, Penang, Johor and Sarawak.

Throughout the festival, various other human rights and social films are screened. An essential part of the festival includes a facilitated discussion by the filmmaker and resource persons related to the issue in question at the end of each film.
